Series of business forums in Turkmenistan

Due to constructive foreign policy of the Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov the modern Turkmenistan became the attraction center of interests of various states, at times widely separated geographically but allied by their economic standpoints, has turned to a singular site of business activity with all necessary requirements for successful doing business and investments.
During the past week a number of high quality and top-level business-forums were held in Turkmenistan:
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Eric Stewart, Executive Director of the Turkmenistan U.S. Business Council, who had arrived in the Turkmen capital to participate in the joint business forum held on June 17, 2010.
Top-level delegation of Turkmenistan U.S. Business Council members included:
  • Vice President for Middle East and Africa Sales Marti Bentrott of Boeing company.
  • Franco Fusignani, Senior CEO of Case New Holland, International SA intending to expand activity on the very promising Turkmen market.
  • Jay Jay Pryor, Chevron Vice President for Corporative Business Development, collaborating on joint projects implemented by Turkmenistan in the fuel and energy sector.
  • Josef Carelli, Executive Director for Caspian Region of the General Electric company, working at modernization of energy infrastructure of Turkmenistan.
  • David Colquhoun, Vice President Continental Europe and Central Asia of the John Deere company having good proposals on further intensification of cooperation on training highly qualified agricultural specialists.
  • Phil Mulhall, Exxon Mobil Exploration Manager for, Europe and North Africa and Adviser Steven Mann discussed the major aspects of cooperation for the next years taking growing attractiveness of the Turkmen market for foreign investments.
  • Larry Archibald, Senior Vice President of Exploration and Business Development for ConocoPhillips, interested in cooperation with Turkmenistan and offering its expertise and advanced technologies to Turkmen partners.
  • Edwin van den Maagdenberg, Vice President and General Manager for Honeywell Process Solutions in Europe, the Middle East and Africa for Honeywell International Inc., specialized in designing new materials and modernizing power plant control systems. Turkmenistan-Honeywell cooperation, in particular partnership in the basic sector of Turkmen economy as well as cooperation in training high qualified specialists in various fields, first of all, high-tech sectors were discussed.
 President of Turkmenistan received leader of UAE delegation Prince of the United Arab Emirates, a cousin of the UAE President Sheikh Suroor Bin Mohammad Al Nahyan, who had arrived in the Turkmen capital on June 16 leading a representative delegation.
In a businesslike, constructive atmosphere the President and his guest exchanged views on various aspects of bilateral cooperation expressing interest in intensifying further and strengthening a traditional fruitful dialogue between Turkmenistan and the UAE. Sheikh Suroor Bin Mohammad Al Nahyan underscored the readiness of a number of large companies, the representatives of which had been included in the accompanying delegation to Turkmenistan, to actively collaborate on the ongoing national and regional projects. In this regard the guest said that the large-scale project of the Avaza national tourism zone launched on the initiative of the Turkmen leader on the Caspian seashore was of particular interest.
The first Turkmen-Chinese business forum was held in Ashgabat on June 19 and became a new important step to enhance cooperation between the two countries. Over a dozen of ‘sectoral’ roundtables in the important and very promising fields such as oil and gas, energy, construction, chemical, textile industries, railway transport, communications, agriculture, trade and banking activity of partnership as were organized.
Dynamic development of economic cooperation is strikingly illustrated by a rapid increase in trade as high as ten times in the epoch of new Revival. Cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, in particular training highly qualified specialists for various sectors, and cultural exchange were of paramount interest. 37 enterprises with the Chinese capital share operating in Turkmenistan implemented 57 investment projects amounted totally to over US$ 4.163 billion and over 2.328 billion Yuan.
The forum participants were unanimous that the agreements reached in Ashgabat would give a new impetus to develop Turkmen-Chinese economic cooperation and use the existing potential effectively.
